The Martyr and Deacon Habib of Edessa (November 15)

Life of the Saint

He was born in Edessa, Syria and lived during the reign of the emperor Licinius (307 - 324).

He served as deacon in the village of Telzeha, Phoenicia. Under the persecution of Licinius, Deacon Habib went secretly into the churches of Telzeha, where he ministered, read the Scriptures, encouraged and strengthened many by his faith, admonishing his hearers to stand fast in the truth of their faith, not fearing their persecutors.

Because of his courageous witness, he was severly tortured and suffered martyrdom.
