Prayer Groups - Ladies
St Barbara's Ladies Society
Under the patronage of the Metropolitan Paul Saliba
Archbishop of the Antiochian Orthodox Church of Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines.
St Barbara's Ladies Society is a prayer group in NSW, which meets every Thursday with a member of the clergy.
We chant the Supplication Hymn to the Holy Mother of God, which is then followed by a meal with tea and coffee, which includes
an open discussion with the priest.
Every third Thursday of the series, we will provide chanting in both English and Arabic, followed by a lecture in English.
The role of the Christian woman is to be educated in her faith. She is called upon God to live the faith, and for those of us with children,
to raise children in the faith. It is our aim to provide spiritual knowledge to our women, helping them in their duties as Christians in their families, church and society.
This prayer group orginally began in 2005 with the blessing of His Grace Metropolitan Paul Saliba, by Fr Antonios Gindi in people's homes and then progressed to be held in churches around Sydney. We have now been granted the old Archdiocese head quarters in Punchbowl, as a convenient and central location for all.
We would like to thank our Archbishop for his support of our endeavours, all the clergy for their time and efforts in the past years, and Fr Aziz Abwi for helping us to learn the chanting.
